Legend
Distributions ("D" Column):
Distributions are bundles of Linux software driven by different philosophies (customization, simplicity, etc...) and distribution methods (packages, source code, etc...). Most distributions also contain programs to manage the installation and removal of programs.
Desktop Environment/Window Manager ("W" Column):
Desktop Environments and Window Managers provide different graphical environments used to manage windows on screen. Desktop Environments have an additional suite of integrated applications, while Window Managers do not come with such programs.
